It's 1972, and a small-town girl (Vickie) is accepted into the prestigious National Ballet School and selected to play "Clara" in the Company's holiday production of The Nutcracker. Unfortunately, that's when Vickie finds out about the mysterious "Curse of Clara", which threatens to derail everything. Thankfully, she's got a good friend, the 1972 Summit Series and an imaginary mentor (in the form of Phil Esposito) to keep her "on pointe."
My role on this project was to design a website that would compliment the animated short. I wanted to create a site that reflected the same innocent, holiday feel as the short and also engaging to capture the audience.
I thought about using parallax because, for me, it feels like you're part of the environment. Since the website was being created at the same time as the short, a lot of the reference material we had was the background scenes. I decided to take one of the backgrounds and separate it into 3 layers.
I didn't want to recreate the wheel so I ended up using Matthew Wagerfield's parallax.js which did the trick. I also added some particle effects to add to the immersiveness.
I also decided to take a look at the logo. There was an existing logo for the project, but I felt that it didn't really fit anywhere.
